•About your bike

Congratulations, you are a proud owner of Velev electric bikes with eco-friendly with has zero air and noise pollution. In a petrol bike, there are so many mating components like gears, clutches and engines. So the wear and tear causes the noise and vibration. In our electric bikes, there are no such parts and it runs very smoothly without any air and noise pollution. Electric energy from the batteries is fed to the motor through a sine wave controller that gets its inputs from the throttle and the braking systems. Hence there is no noise and air pollution and also no vibrations.

Battery

Ampere-hour = A fuel tank!

Yes, the more ampere-hours you have, the more range you will get with your electric bike.

The lead acid battery should take 8-10 hours for complete charge. For lithium ion battery it will take 3-4 hours for full charge. The batteries should be recharged every 3 days even if vehicle is not used. To maximize the battery life, please refer this page for battery charging tips.

  Battery maintenance tips:

• The ignition switch must be in OFF position when your bike is being charged.
• The charger supplies you is only for charging the battery. Do not use it for other purpose.
• The battery charger is only for INDOOR purposes.
• Don’t try to open the charger. It may leads to fire accident.
• Keep the charger out of children and pets.
• Don’t use damaged components, such as power cords, damaged wires etc. It may leads to electric shock.

Health tips for battery and charger

Battery health tips :

•Heat kills the
battery. Avoid immediate charging after long drive. Try charging in the night.
•Very frequent
charging reduces life. Try to discharge almost totally and then charge fully.
•Battery lose charge
even when not used. Charge the batteries once fortnight even not used.
•Batteries are sealed.
Do not open it and don’t try to fill any liquids.

•Whenever you don’t
use the bike for more than 4 days, then the MCB must be turned off.

Charger health tips :

•     Ensure that the charger plug on both sides is not loose and there is no sparking/heating of the main socket.
•     Do not charge the batteries more than 12 hours.
•     Protect charger from the direct sunlight, rain or excessive dust, put it in a ventilated place while charging.
•     While charging first plug the battery side, the AC side. After charging first unplug the AC socket, then the battery side.

Driving steps from start to stop

Drive your bike:

•Take the bike off the stand
•Check for recommended tyre pressure (Refer next page) for smooth and efficient running.
•Insert the ignition key without turning the throttle.
•Sit on the bike and turn the key to ON position and check the battery indication and the battery is charged.
•Slowly twist the throttle to get the bike moving.

•Make sure that the vehicle should not be over loaded.

Do’s and Don’ts while driving:

• The power to the motor cuts off when brakes are applied. Do not hold on the brakes if you want to run the motor.
• Avoid going through deep pools of water. Dry your brakes by lightly applying them repeatedly.
• Drive a vehicle in your controlled speed to avoid skidding and accidents.
• Avoid abrupt acceleration and brakes, this will reduce your mileage.
• While driving be caution on other drivers.
• Do not take sharp turns while driving. Reduce the speed while turning.
•  While going in steep slope, avoid acceleration.
• When it is raining or on wet roads, be more cautious while braking.
• Do not use or leave your vehicle at waterlogged areas.

• Follow traffic rules and sign boards.

After ride Do’s and Don’ts

• After ride, turn off ignition lock and remove the keys out.
• Put bike on stand on flat ground, avoid irregular surface.

• If bike needs charging, put the bike for charging.
 Important

It is safer to comfortably seated on your bike before turning ON the power. If the power is turned ON, it could result in the bike moving forward before you are ready and could cause injury.

Remember that there is power cut of switch is embedded into both the brake levers. When you apply the brakes, power to the motor will turn OFF. So do not hold the brake levers when you want the motor to run.

Tyre Pressure: An under inflated tyre can cause premature tyre failure, and will require more energy to propel your vehicle. Low tyre pressure significantly reduce the range of the bike.

Performance parameter of the battery:

• VEV1 bike fitted with a new battery gives the stated mileage on the stated conditions.
• Actual mileage of the new battery may be lower because of factors such as road conditions, load on tyres, gradients, start stops, acceleration and charge level etc.
• Batteries are like fuels for your electric vehicles and start getting consumed by time. For example the mileage on day 1 will be the highest than day 30. This is natural phenomena of the Electric batteries.
• The batteries are warranted by the manufacturing defects only and not against deterioration in their performance.
• The mileage and the condition of the batteries may greatly deterioration more than that specified above in any of the steps mentioned in the battery health tips given in the manual to you at the time of delivery of the bike not carried out properly.

• Range : Many factors govern the mileage of your bike. These are, The charge of the battery, tyre pressure, adjustment of the brakes, an overloaded E-bike requires more power to run the system which results in a loss of range, frequent start and stops of the users.
